The Charlotte Sidbury House, Corpus Christi

historic place

The Charlotte Sidbury House, a historic place in Corpus Christi, Texas, was built around 1893. It was commissioned by Charlotte Cook Scott Sidbury, a prominent rancher, bank director, and civic leader in Nueces County. Mrs. Sidbury, who managed her husband's lumber company after his death, built this as one of two rental properties; she never lived in it herself. This Victorian structure is noted for its High Victorian architecture, a style it represents as the only remaining example in Corpus Christi. The house was originally located on the Bluff Addition. It was moved from that site in 1926. Later, in 1977, it was relocated to Heritage Park and restored by the Junior League. A historical marker for the Sidbury House was erected in 1976. The Charlotte Sidbury House offers insight into residential architecture of the 1890s in the Coastal Bend region.
