1926 Republic National Bank Building, Dallas

historic place

In downtown Dallas, at 1309 Main Street, stands a significant historic structure. This building, originally known as the Republic National Bank building, opened its doors in 1926. At the time of its construction, this twenty-story building was the tallest in Dallas, marking a notable point in the city's skyline. It served as the original home for Republic Bank from 1926 until 1954. In 1931, a twenty-story west wing was added. The building was later renamed the Davis Building in 1954, after Dallas businessman Wirt Davis, when the bank relocated. Today, this historic place is recognized as a Dallas Landmark, designated in 1998, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006. It has since been renovated into apartment lofts. The 1926 Republic National Bank building remains an important example of Dallas's early 20th-century architectural and financial development.
