4928 Bryan Street Apartments
historic place
The 4928 Bryan Street Apartments in Dallas, Texas, were constructed in 1928. This twelve-unit building showcases an eclectic Mediterranean Revival architectural style. Its original features remain largely intact. A notable alteration occurred in 1937 when the initial composition shingle roof was replaced with red clay tiles. The apartments represent an example of early multi-family housing that developed in East Dallas during the 1920s. This development was part of the area's suburbanization, influenced by the expansion of streetcar lines. Fred Schrock purchased the property in 1927, and construction began in March 1928. He owned the building until his death in 1958. Early residents included single working women, such as postal clerks and stenographers. Designated a Dallas Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the building underwent rehabilitation in 2006. This restoration aimed to return it to its original appearance. The 4928 Bryan Street Apartments are historically significant for illustrating Dallas's community planning and development during a period of growth.
