Chevrolet Motor Company Building
historic place
The Chevrolet Motor Company Building, at 3221 Commerce Street in Dallas, Texas, was completed in 1923. Designed by Lang and Witchell, this four-story structure served as Chevrolet's assembly plant and Southwestern Headquarters. It was Dallas's second automobile assembly plant. This building was vital to Dallas's growing automotive industry in the 1920s, reflecting the city's rise as a distribution center. Its Commercial Style, concrete and brick design was an early example of fireproof construction. Over time, the building housed U.S. government offices and the Hesse Envelope Company, eventually becoming apartments. This site is historically important for its role in Dallas's industrial development and the evolution of the Deep Ellum neighborhood.
