Continental Gin Company, Dallas, Texas

historic place

The Continental Gin Company in Dallas, Texas, marks a significant historic place. Before 1885, inventor Robert Sylvester Munger, born in 1854, patented improvements for cotton ginning. In 1885, he and his brother, Stephen, founded the Munger Improved Cotton Machine & Manufacturing Company. They used this building as their showroom. In 1900, their company merged with the Continental Gin Company. This merger created a major Dallas business that supplied cotton gin equipment across the country. The company continued operations until it closed in 1962. The Texas Historical Commission erected a historical marker here in 1983. This site serves as a reminder of Dallas' early commercial and industrial growth.
