Dallas Coffin Company
historic place
The Dallas Coffin Company, a historic place in Dallas County, Texas, was founded in 1906 by Joseph Parks. After initially operating near Dealey Plaza, the company relocated in 1909. Its new five-story manufacturing facility at 1325 South Lamar, designed by C.W. Bulger and Son, was completed in 1911. This building became a regional hub, supplying coffins, caskets, and mortuary supplies across the Southwest. The company operated here until 1950. Subsequently, the building housed an insurance company, a printing company, and later a Sears Roebuck and Company warehouse. This structure is significant for its early 20th-century industrial architecture and its contribution to Dallas's commercial growth. Today, the rehabilitated building functions as a hotel, preserving a part of Dallas's industrial history.
