Dixon--Moore House
historic place
The Dixon-Moore House, located at 2716 Peabody in Dallas, Texas, is a significant historic place. Built around 1900, this late-Victorian-era cottage stands in the South Park Addition of South Dallas. Its architecture features Queen Anne-style detailing, including elaborate bargeboard and turned porch posts, making it a rare example of a shotgun dwelling in the area. The first known resident was William M. Dixon, a traveling salesman, who occupied the house around 1906. Later, John J. Moore, a tradesman, purchased the home about 1914. His wife, Mary, continued to live here until after 1940, even after John's passing around 1926. The Dixon-Moore House is important as one of the few surviving examples of early 20th-century housing from South Dallas' streetcar-driven development. It represents the mass-building efforts that provided homes for moderate-income families in the post-depression years. The house retains much of its original Victorian-era character, offering insight into the architectural styles prevalent during that period in Dallas.
