Emanuel Lutheran Church
historic place
Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dallas, Texas, began in 1906, founded by Swedish immigrants. The congregation acquired its East Dallas property at Peak and San Jacinto Streets in 1921. Services were held in the basement from 1924 until the brick sanctuary, featuring Late Gothic Revival detailing, was completed. The first service in the new sanctuary took place on September 14, 1931. In 1930, the church became Evangelical Emanuel Lutheran Church, transitioning services from Swedish to English. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. Emanuel Lutheran Church has maintained its presence in East Dallas, adapting to serve its diverse community. It is historically significant for its architecture and its continuous role in the Dallas community.
