Fidelity Union Life Insurance Building

historic place

The Fidelity Union Life Insurance Building in Dallas, Texas, is a historic place. It comprises two towers. The first 21-story tower was built in 1952. A 31-story addition followed, constructed between 1959 and 1960. This complex served as the headquarters for the Fidelity Union Life Insurance Company, founded by Carr P. Collins, Sr. It represents Mid-Century Modern architecture. The original 1952 tower featured Kasota limestone and Malverne brick. The 1960 addition incorporated blond brick and green mosaic tile. Architect Wyatt C. Hedrick designed the 1952 tower, with Nelson Stanley joining for the 1960 addition. The building is significant for its association with a successful insurance company that contributed to Dallas's commercial growth after World War II. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009. From 2005 to 2007, the complex was converted into residential units, now called The Mosaic. This site reflects a key era of post-war economic expansion in Dallas.
