Harlan Building
historic place
The Harlan Building, located in Dallas, Texas, was constructed in 1914. Pioneer produce dealer William Ellis Harlan, Senior, built this two-story, deep violet brick structure. At the time of its construction, the area was primarily residential. The building's presence helped establish the surrounding blocks as the Dallas Farmers Market, as other produce-related businesses soon located nearby. In 1988, the Harlan Building was designated a Dallas Landmark. It was later added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004. Today, the Harlan Building stands as one of the few remaining early structures representing the significant contribution of Dallas's produce market to the city's economy.
