Johnson Rooming House
historic place
The Johnson Rooming House, at 1026 North Beckley Avenue in Dallas, Texas, is a historic place. Built in 1923, Gladys Johnson purchased this home in 1943. The house is primarily known as the last residence of Lee Harvey Oswald. He rented a room here from October 14 to November 22, 1963, using the name O.H. Lee. On November 22, 1963, following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, Oswald returned to the house. He quickly grabbed a jacket and left. Soon after, he fatally shot Dallas Police officer J.D. Tippit nearby. Today, the Johnson Rooming House operates as the Oswald Rooming House Museum, maintained by Gladys Johnson's granddaughter. It was nominated to the National Register of Historic Places in 2013. This site holds historical importance for its direct link to the Kennedy assassination.
