McIntosh, Roger D., House

historic place

The McIntosh, Roger D., House is a historic place in Dallas, Texas, located at 1518 Abrams Road. The building began in 1918 as a two-story garage with an apartment above it. Roger D. McIntosh, a stained-glass artist born in 1888, acquired the property in the 1920s. He transformed the structure, which he nicknamed 'The Shack,' into his personal home and studio. McIntosh poured his artistic vision into the house, personally crafting nearly every stained-glass window, mirror, lamp, and light fixture. His work can also be seen in other Dallas landmarks, such as the Adolphus Hotel and Munger Place Methodist Church. Beyond glass, he carved and fitted much of the home's interior woodwork. The McIntosh, Roger D., House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. This site stands as a significant example of Roger D. McIntosh's unique artistic contributions to Dallas.
