Mrs. Baird's Bread Company Building

historic place

The Mrs. Baird's Bread Company Building, located at 1401 North Carroll Avenue in Dallas, Texas, is a historic place. This two-story brick building, featuring Prairie School detailing, began operations in 1929. It was Mrs. Baird's first bakery expansion outside of Fort Worth. The Dallas location was chosen near railroads for ingredient delivery and in East Dallas for its growing workforce. The bakery produced 3,500 loaves of bread per hour. In 1934, an addition expanded its cooling, wrapping, and loading areas. Mrs. Baird's Bread Company became the largest independent baking company in the United States. The company sold this building in 1956, and it later housed a book cover manufacturing facility and a fabric company. The Mrs. Baird's Bread Company Building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. Today, it is the earliest remaining Mrs. Baird's building in the Metroplex.
