Number 4 Hook and Ladder Company

historic place

The Number 4 Hook and Ladder Company, also known as the Oak Lawn Fire Station, stands in Dallas, Texas, at the intersection of Cedar Springs Road and Reagan Street. This historic fire station was constructed in 1909. It was designed by architect Herbert M. Greene. The building is notable as Dallas's first suburban fire station. Its architecture reflects the Prairie School style, incorporating Mission Style embellishments. It is considered an example of high-quality public architecture from its period and is one of only two prototypical stations of its kind remaining in the city. The Number 4 Hook and Ladder Company was officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 4, 1981. Today, it continues to operate as a working firehouse. This site offers a direct connection to Dallas's early 20th-century development and architectural heritage.
