One Main Place, Dallas, Texas
historic place
One Main Place is a significant historic site in Dallas, Texas. Located at 1201 Main Street, this 33-story building was completed in 1968. It was designed by Gordon Bunshaft of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. Conceived in the 1950s, One Main Place was intended as the first phase of Dallas's ambitious "Superblock" project. The larger plan aimed to revitalize downtown Dallas, though only this single structure was ultimately built. Architecturally, One Main Place is a Modernist structure with International Style elements. It features a textured concrete frame and deeply recessed windows. Notably, it was the first building in Dallas to operate entirely on electricity. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2015. Two years later, in 2017, it received designation as a Dallas Landmark. These designations recognize its architectural importance and its role in Dallas's urban development history.
