Snider Hall, Dallas, Texas
historic place
Snider Hall is a historic place in Dallas County, Texas, located on the campus of Southern Methodist University. The building was constructed in 1926. It was designed by architect Wyatt C. Hedrick in the Georgian Revival architectural style. Snider Hall originally served as a women's dormitory. It is named for C.W. Snider, a local real estate magnate who provided funding for its construction and furnishings. A notable architectural detail is a polychromatic elephant relief, which is situated above the south entrance. An anonymous donor to SMU purchased this unique elephant overseas. In 1997, Snider Hall was renovated and integrated with Virginia Hall, forming Virginia-Snider Hall. The building was officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 27, 1980. Snider Hall remains an important example of the Georgian Revival architecture that defines the early Southern Methodist University campus.
