Stanard--Tilton Flour Mill
historic place
The Stanard-Tilton Flour Mill in Dallas, Texas, is a significant historic industrial site. Its history begins with a business founded by Sarah Cockrell in 1863. The Cockrell family sold their milling operations to the Stanard-Tilton Company of St. Louis in 1892. The current mill building was constructed in 1913. This construction followed the 1908 Trinity River flood, aiding Dallas's industrial recovery. Located in south Dallas, the mill utilized direct access to rail and highway networks. It became the largest flour milling operation in Dallas during its active period. The facility expanded in 1948 to modernize its capabilities. The mill ceased operations in July 1973. Today, the Stanard-Tilton Flour Mill has been renovated into loft apartments. It was designated a Dallas Landmark in 1996 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997. This site highlights Dallas's industrial growth and resilience.
