The Magnolia Building, Dallas

historic place

The Magnolia Building, a historic place in Dallas County, was completed in August 1922. Designed by British architect Sir Alfred C. Bossom, the building cost four million dollars. It stood as Dallas's tallest structure for almost two decades, reflecting the city's increasing economic importance. In 1934, the iconic "Flying Red Horse" neon sign, the trademark for Magnolia Petroleum Company, was placed atop the building. This revolving sign quickly became a local landmark. The building was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1978.
