Floresville Chronicle-Journal Building
historic place
The Floresville Chronicle-Journal Building, located at 1000 C Street in downtown Floresville, is a historic place in Wilson County. This building served as the newspaper's office for many years. Sam Fore Jr. built this newspaper office in the early 1900s. The newspaper itself has a longer history. It began as the Western Chronicle in Sutherland Springs on January 26, 1877. The paper later moved to Floresville. In 1910, Sam Fore Jr. became editor of both the Chronicle and the Wilson County Journal. He then acquired ownership in 1912. On January 1, 1913, Fore combined these publications to create the Floresville Chronicle-Journal. Fore and his wife operated the newspaper until September 1963, when Joe H. and Marjorie Fietsam purchased it. The Fietsams moved the newspaper's office from this C Street location to Third Street in 1974. The Floresville Chronicle-Journal ceased production on April 11, 2008, after 131 years of operation. This building represents a significant part of Floresville's journalistic and community history.
