Grierson-Sproul House
historic place
The Grierson-Sproul House is a historic place in Fort Davis, Jeff Davis County. This masonry residence was completed in 1908 by B. H. Grierson Jr.. Its construction incorporates pink volcanic rock, known as tuff, exemplifying early 20th century building practices. The house's design resembles officer's quarters at the military post of Fort Davis. In 1912, a fire destroyed much of the structure. Local rancher and County Sheriff Franklin Sproul directed the home's restoration. The Sproul family's efforts helped the residence become a center for community activities. The Grierson-Sproul House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. It was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 2016. Today, the home serves as an architectural link to West Texas' military and agricultural history.
