Jeff Davis County Courthouse

historic place

The Jeff Davis County Courthouse in Fort Davis, Texas, was constructed between 1910 and 1911. This building replaced an earlier adobe courthouse from 1880. L. L. Thurman and Company of Dallas designed this Classical Revival structure. The Falls City Construction Company of Louisville, Kentucky, erected it. The courthouse features a portico with Doric columns. Its exterior displays alternating bands of locally sourced pink rusticated stone. A Beaux-Arts style clock tower, housing a Seth Thomas timepiece, crowns the building. Designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 2000, the Jeff Davis County Courthouse continues to serve as the seat of local government. It remains a central civic point for the county.
