historic place
In Fort Worth, Texas, at Meacham International Airport, stands the American Airways Hangar and Administration Building. This historic structure, a Category Historic Place, opened in 1933. It was built for American Airways, which established its base at Meacham Field in 1927. The building cost $150,000 to construct. Russian-born architect Abraham Epstein designed the two-story facility. Its Moderne architectural style is evident in the fluted cast stone pilasters and the American Airlines eagle in bas-relief. This building is the oldest at Meacham Field. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 16, 2008. The American Airways Hangar and Administration Building is historically significant for its role in early aviation and its distinctive architecture.
