Blackstone Hotel
historic place
The Blackstone Hotel, a historic place in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, opened on October 10, 1929. Designed by Mauran, Russell, and Crowell, with Elmer G. Withers, it was Fort Worth's first Art Deco skyscraper. This hotel hosted U.S. Presidents from Herbert Hoover to Richard M. Nixon, and entertainers like Clark Gable and Bob Hope. Fort Worth's first radio station, WBAP, broadcast from its 22nd floor in the mid-1930s, where Bob Wills recorded "San Antonio Rose." The Blackstone Hotel was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 and became a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1998. It stands as a significant example of early 20th-century architecture and a site of cultural importance in Fort Worth.
