Eldred W. Foster House, Fort Worth, Texas

historic place

The Eldred W. Foster House, located in Fort Worth, Texas, is a significant example of mid-century modern architecture. Built in 1951, the house was constructed for Eldred W. Foster, a design engineer. Its plans were originally published in the January 1948 issue of Woman's Home Companion Magazine, making it the first modern home featured in that series. The design came from the firm of Raymond & Rado, co-founded by Antonin Raymond, an associate of Frank Lloyd Wright. This residence holds distinction as the first mid-century modern home in Fort Worth to be listed in the National Register of Historic Places, achieving this recognition on August 28, 2012. It is also the first documented example of a completed residence built from the magazine plans and the only known work by Antonin Raymond in Texas. In 2016, the Fort Worth City Council further designated it as a Historic and Cultural Landmark. The Eldred W. Foster House is historically important for its architectural style and its connection to nationally published designs of the mid-20th century.
