First National Bank Building, Fort Worth

historic place

The First National Bank Building, a historic place in Fort Worth, Texas, stands at 711 Houston Street in Tarrant County. It was erected in 1910. The building was designed by the architectural firms Sanguinet & Staats with Wyatt C. Hedrick. This 11-story structure was built in a three-part vertical commercial block skyscraper style, incorporating Beaux-Arts architectural elements. Originally, the building was three bays wide on Houston Street. In 1926, an expansion designed by Wyatt C. Hedrick doubled its size to seven bays wide on Houston Street. The First National Bank, incorporated in 1877 as the city's oldest bank, occupied this building until 1961. The building was listed in the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior in 2009. This structure reflects Fort Worth's early commercial development and the expansion of its financial institutions.
