Fort Worth Elks Lodge 124

historic place

The Fort Worth Elks Lodge 124 building, located in Tarrant County, was constructed between 1927 and 1928. Fort Worth architect Wyatt C. Hedrick designed this five-story structure. It incorporates Georgian Revival and Spanish Renaissance architectural elements. The building originally served as the headquarters for the Fort Worth Elks Lodge and provided residences for visiting members. The local Elks organization, founded July 8, 1901, engaged in charitable activities. These included Thanksgiving dinners for newspaper carriers and Christmas Eve dinners for underprivileged children. General John J. Pershing participated in the building's dedication in May 1928. The Elks Lodge relocated in March 1953. The Fort Worth YWCA purchased the building in January 1955. This structure was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. It was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1986. The Fort Worth Elks Lodge 124 building reflects the architectural and social character of Fort Worth from the 1920s.
