Fort Worth Public Market

historic place

The Fort Worth Public Market opened on June 20, 1930, in Tarrant County. Developer John J. Harden built this commercial structure for local farmers, vendors, and retailers. Designed by B. Gaylord Noftsger, the building features Spanish Colonial Revival, Italian Baroque Revival, and Art Deco styles. It was known for its multi-colored tile roof and an 85-foot tower. The market closed in 1941, impacted by the Great Depression. It was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1980 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. The Fort Worth Public Market represents a significant example of early 20th-century commercial architecture.
