Our Lady of Victory Academy
historic place
Our Lady of Victory Academy, located at 801 Shaw Street in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, is a significant historic place. Groundbreaking for the academy occurred on March 25, 1909, with the cornerstone laid on August 5 of that year. The five-story building was designed by Fort Worth architects Sanguinet and Staats. The academy opened on September 12, 1910, welcoming 72 students, including 31 boarders. The Sisters of Saint Mary of Namur operated the school, offering a broad curriculum. Notably, in the early 1950s, Our Lady of Victory became Fort Worth's first fully integrated private or public school, admitting both boys and girls, and white and Black students. The original academy building was sold in 1988 due to maintenance costs and was renovated in 2004 into the Victory Arts Center, now residential and artist studios. The Our Lady of Victory Catholic School ceased educational operations on February 23, 2021. This site was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 20, 2004.
