historic place

The Oxsheer, Fountain G. and Mary, House is a historic place in Fort Worth, Tarrant County. This house was built in 1916 for Fountain G. and Mary Oxsheer. The Oxsheers were pioneers and West Texas ranchers. Fountain G. Oxsheer was posthumously inducted into the Hall of Cattle Kings of Texas in 1936. Designed by William Reed and Sons, the 2 1/2-story house exemplifies the Prairie School style. It features a low-pitched hipped roof, broad overhanging eaves, and a symmetrical facade. The house was notable for being one of the first in this area with central heat. It also included over 80 windows for light and airflow, and a separate servants' quarters. The Oxsheer family owned the property until the 1970s. In 2016, the house was listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It received a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark designation in 2019, the same year its historical marker was erected. This location provides insight into Fort Worth's architectural and ranching history.
