Riverside Baptist Church, Fort Worth, Texas

historic place

Riverside Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas, was established in 1904. The main church building, designed by architects Easterwood and Easterwood, was constructed in 1924. The structure saw expansions in 1951 and again in 1958. This church served the Tarrant County community for many decades, holding its last service on Christmas Eve in 2018. In 2020, the building received a historic designation from the National Register for Historic Places. Following this, the former church was revitalized and reimagined as Cielo Place, a mixed-income housing community. This preservation effort incorporated original elements like stained glass windows, woodwork, and even some pews, the altar, and the baptismal. Riverside Baptist Church is historically significant as an example of a community institution adapted for new use while preserving its architectural heritage.
