Rogers-O'Daniel House

historic place

The Rogers-O'Daniel House in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, has a notable history. William Joseph Rogers built this residence in 1901, after acquiring a 137-acre farm. It was originally a three-story, Queen Anne style frame structure. In 1925, after the farm was subdivided, W. Lee "Pappy" O'Daniel remodeled the house. O'Daniel had moved to Fort Worth as a sales manager for Burrus Mills. He later gained prominence by sponsoring the Light Crust Doughboys. O'Daniel was elected Governor of Texas, serving from 1939 to 1941. He then served as a U.S. Senator from 1941 to 1949, selling this property in 1945. A historical marker was erected here in 1984 by the Texas Historical Commission. The Rogers-O'Daniel House is significant for its association with a prominent Texas political figure and its architectural evolution.
