Sanger Brothers Building
historic place
The Sanger Brothers Building stands at 515 Houston Street in Fort Worth, Texas. This eight-story structure was constructed in 1925, designed by architect Wiley G. Clarkson. It opened as the primary downtown location for the Sanger Brothers Department Store, a significant retail presence in the city. The store was notable for amenities such as an indoor putting green and a hospital room staffed with a trained nurse. After Sanger Brothers relocated in 1929, the building continued its role in downtown commerce. It housed Lerner's Store and later Meacham's Department Store for many years. In more recent decades, the building has served as office space, including the headquarters for the Color Tile Company. The Sanger Brothers Building was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2014. It holds significance for its association with downtown retail trends and its architectural design, illustrating the evolution of department stores in Fort Worth during the early to mid-twentieth century.
