Tabernacle Baptist Church, Fort Worth, Texas

historic place

Tabernacle Baptist Church, located in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, is a historic place. The current building, an example of Classical Revival architecture, was constructed in phases between 1923 and 1927. The first phase, an elevated brick basement, was completed in 1923. The main Auditorium Wing and a Young Peoples Annex were then built from 1926 to 1927. This congregation has a history that predates the current structure. Its predecessor, the Kentucky Avenue Baptist Church, had its building and records destroyed by fire in December 1920. Following this event, the congregation adopted the name Tabernacle Baptist Church and built a temporary structure before constructing the present facility. The church was later known as Evans Avenue Baptist Church and is now called Mount Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 30, 1999. This site is significant for its architectural style and its long-standing presence in the community.
