Tarrant County Courthouse

historic place

The Tarrant County Courthouse in Fort Worth, a historic place, was completed in 1895. Architects Frederick C. Gunn and Louis Curtiss designed this Renaissance Revival style building. It was constructed with red Texas granite and was among the first in the Southwest to use a structural steel frame. Its design resembles the Texas State Capitol. The final cost of $408,840 was considered a public extravagance, leading to the election of a new County Commissioners' Court in 1894. This structure was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1969 and listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1970. It serves as a significant historical landmark for Tarrant County.
