Texas & Pacific Steam Locomotive No. 610
historic place
Texas & Pacific Steam Locomotive No. 610, a 'Texas' type, was built in June 1927 by Lima Locomotive Works. This 2-10-4 locomotive was designed for heavy freight service on the Texas and Pacific Railway. After decades of operation, No. 610 was retired in 1950. In 1951, it was donated and placed on static display at the Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas. The locomotive remained a static exhibit until 1976. That year, it was restored in Fort Worth to pull the American Freedom Train through Texas, celebrating the nation's Bicentennial. Texas & Pacific Steam Locomotive No. 610 is the only surviving 'Texas' type locomotive from the Texas and Pacific Railway. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 25, 1977. This locomotive marks a significant part of Fort Worth's railroad history.
