The Bryce Building, Fort Worth
historic place
The Bryce Building, a historic place in Fort Worth, Texas, stands at 909 Throckmorton Street in Tarrant County. William J. Bryce, a prominent Fort Worth businessman and civic leader, constructed this building in 1910 to house his construction company's offices. Bryce served as Mayor of Fort Worth from 1927 to 1933. The building features an irregular five-sided plan, adapting the Classical Revival style to its commercial structure. Its exterior brick was likely supplied by Bryce's Denton Press Brick Company. An incised cast-stone panel, bearing the name "Bryce Building," is positioned below a copper cornice. The first floor originally housed Bryce's company, while the second floor was leased to various businesses. In 1982, a fire severely damaged the interior. Joe and Betty Ambrose acquired and restored the property in 1984. The Bryce Building was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1983 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. This building represents the architectural and commercial development of Fort Worth in the early 20th century.
