The Electric Building, Fort Worth
historic place
The Electric Building is a historic place in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas. Construction on this 18-story structure took place between 1929 and 1930. Fort Worth architect Wyatt C. Hedrick designed the building to serve as the headquarters for the Texas Electric Service Company. The building showcases Art Deco and Spanish Renaissance architectural styles. Its design features a granite base, cut stone, and cream-colored brick. A distinctive decorative motif, a hand grasping bolts of electricity, symbolizes its original utility purpose. An annex, also designed by Hedrick, housed the Hollywood Theatre. The Electric Building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. Today, it contains apartments and ground-floor retail. This building holds historical significance for Fort Worth.
