The Petroleum Building, Fort Worth

historic place

The Petroleum Building, a historic place in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, was erected in 1927. This fourteen-story structure, designed by Fort Worth architect Wyatt C. Hedrick, features Art Deco elements. It was a significant development during the city's oil and gas boom. Businessman and oil entrepreneur R.O. Dulaney, president of the Dulaney-Johnston Investment Company, commissioned its construction. The building served as a hub for the petroleum industry, housing numerous oil companies, including Dulaney's own Fort Ring Oil and Gas Company on its top floor. Over its history, the building has been known by several other names, including the Life of America Building, Schick Building, Finevest Building, and Executive Plaza Building. It underwent restoration in 2004 and was acquired by Sundance Square in 2018. The Petroleum Building remains a notable example of Fort Worth's commercial architecture and its connection to the early 20th-century oil industry.
