Franklin Carnegie Library

historic place

The Franklin Carnegie Library, located in Robertson County, is a Historic Place. Before 1913, Franklin's library was housed in the City Hall. In February 1913, Mayor R. M. Cole applied to the Carnegie Corporation for funds to build a dedicated library. The Corporation approved a $7,500 grant for the project. Designed by architect Patterson, this brick building, featuring classical details, was completed in 1914. It served as a library until 1918. From 1918 through 1984, the building hosted school classes and various public activities. The Franklin Carnegie Library was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1986. Today, the building houses the Robertson County Library. This site reflects Franklin's historical investment in public learning and community resources.
