Cherry Spring School
historic place
The Cherry Spring School in Gillespie County is a historic place. The Cherry Spring community, settled by German immigrants around 1852, initially held school classes in private homes. This continued until 1885. In 1885, this limestone schoolhouse was completed on land donated by H. Bratherich. On dedication day, students formed a parade to the new building. The Cherry Spring schoolhouse served the nearby residents until 1962, when it was consolidated with Fredericksburg. The historical marker for this site was erected in 1988 by the Texas Historical Commission. The school was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1988. It was also added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. Today, the building functions as a community center. The Cherry Spring School documents the history of early education in Gillespie County.
