Fredericksburg Memorial Library
historic place
The Fredericksburg Memorial Library, also known as the Pioneer Memorial Library, is a historic place in Fredericksburg, Gillespie County, Texas. This building, located at 115 West Main Street, was originally constructed in 1882. Designed by architect Alfred Giles, it served as the Gillespie County Courthouse. The structure was built in the Romanesque Revival style, using local limestone. After a new courthouse was built in 1939, the building saw various uses and fell into disrepair. In 1967, it was restored and became the Fredericksburg Memorial Library, thanks to donations from Mr. and Mrs. Eugene McDermott. The site was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1967 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. This building's history reflects its evolution from a center of county government to a community library.
