Morris Ranch Schoolhouse

historic place

The Morris Ranch Schoolhouse is located in Fredericksburg, Gillespie County, Texas. This historic place was built in 1893. It was part of the Morris Ranch, known for breeding and training thoroughbred horses. The native limestone building also served as a place of worship for several local churches. Its design included a central assembly hall and classrooms in each wing. Max Hirsch, later a Hall of Fame thoroughbred trainer, attended school and church here. The public school operated until 1962, then merged with the Fredericksburg district. The Morris Ranch Schoolhouse was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1980. This site reflects the historical importance of education and community in rural Texas.
