Wrede School
historic place
The Wrede School in Gillespie County, Texas, was built in 1896 on land owned by Friedrich von Wrede. Located near Fredericksburg, the school opened that year with forty-six students. For over sixty years, a rule forbade speaking German on school grounds, despite its common use in local homes. The school consolidated with the Fredericksburg Independent School District in 1960. Today, the building serves as a community center and polling place. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005, recognizing its significance in local education.
