Schubert House, Giddings, Texas
historic place
The Schubert House, located in Giddings, Lee County, is a significant historic place. Merchant August W. Schubert built this two-story residence in 1879, showcasing a Greek Revival architectural style. Schubert, a Wendish settler, constructed this home for his wife and ten children. In 1894, Schubert sold the house to the Missouri Synod of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, and it served as Concordia Lutheran College until 1900. State legislator Baylis J. Fletcher later purchased the property, and his family resided there until the mid-1980s. Today, the Schubert House is home to the Lee County Museum and the Giddings Chamber of Commerce. It was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1966 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970. This structure reflects Giddings' architectural and community development history.
