Mark and Maybelle Lemmon House

historic place

The Mark and Maybelle Lemmon House, a historic place in Highland Park, Dallas County, was designed by Mark Lemmon in 1924 for his own family. This residence reflects an interest in Norman architecture that Lemmon developed during his service in France during World War I. The house is evocative of a French farmhouse, featuring a gabled roof, plaster walls, and half-timbering. Mark Lemmon was recognized as one of Texas' premier historicist architects. He designed academic, religious, and institutional buildings across the state, adapting historic styles for 20th-century uses. Mark and his wife, Maybelle Reynolds Lemmon, were also active in Dallas, supporting many civic organizations. In 2006, the Mark and Maybelle Lemmon House was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. The Texas Historical Commission erected a marker at the site in the same year. This house is significant for its architectural style and its association with a prominent Texas architect and his contributions to the state.
