Abraham Wiley Hill House

historic place

The Abraham Wiley Hill House is a historic place located in Hills Prairie, Bastrop County. Abraham Wiley Hill arrived in Texas on July 3, 1835, with a group of 140 settlers. In the 1830s, he purchased 2,220 acres of land from Sarah Jenkins, Edward Jenkins's widow. Hill then built his home on this property, and the surrounding settlement became known as Hills Prairie. By 1856, Hill constructed the Greek Revival style house that stands today. The house is recognized on the National Register of Historic Places. A Recorded Texas Historic Landmark medallion was erected at the site in 1962. This medallion acknowledges the house's historical significance, though it does not include a descriptive text. The Abraham Wiley Hill House represents an early settlement and architectural style in Bastrop County.
