Apollo Mission Control Center
historic place
The Apollo Mission Control Center is located in Houston, Harris County, Texas. Situated in Building 30 of NASA Johnson Space Center, this facility began operations in June 1965. It served as the central hub for monitoring nine Gemini and all Apollo lunar missions. From here, flight controllers managed communications between Earth and human spaceflight missions. A key moment occurred on July 20, 1969, when the center received the message, 'Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed,' during the Apollo 11 mission. This facility exercised full mission control for Apollo 11, from launch to splashdown. The Apollo Mission Control Center was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1985. It was later restored to its Apollo-era condition, with work completed in July 2019. This site remains historically significant for its critical role in America's early human spaceflight program.
