Burge House

historic place

The Burge House is a historic place in Houston, Texas, situated within the Houston Heights neighborhood. This two-story wood-frame house was built around 1910. Robert Burge, president of Burge Manufacturing Company, purchased the property that year. The house features a hip roof with central dormers and projecting gables. Its attached porch wraps around one side, supported by half columns on brick piers. Architecturally, it blends Victorian-influenced Colonial Revival elements with early 20th-century bungaloid features, representing a transitional style. The Burge House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 22, 1983. It was also designated a Landmark of the City of Houston in 1998. This Harris County residence is significant for its architecture and its contribution to the historical character of the Houston Heights area, one of Texas's first planned suburbs.
