Cummings House

historic place

The Cummings House is a historic place located in Houston, Texas, within Harris County. This two-story frame house was constructed in 1921. It represents an example of Prairie-style architecture from the period around World War I. The house features a distinctive hipped roof with a porte-cochere extending to one side. Its attached porch and the roof of the porte-cochere are supported by battered half-columns on brick piers. Large rectangular balusters surround the porch. The front of the house includes a single door with sidelights, and a large front window with double sidelights and a long transom. The original owner, O.S. Cummings, was involved in Houston's growing oil industry during that era. The Cummings House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 22, 1983. Today, this property continues its use as a rental residence. The Cummings House offers insight into early 20th-century residential design in Houston.
