Donoghue, Thomas J., House

historic place

The Thomas J. Donoghue House is in Houston, Harris County, Texas. Thomas J. Donoghue, a founder and executive of the Texas Company, Texaco, and his wife, Mary, built this house between 1915 and 1916. Designed by noted New York architect Whitney Warren of the firm Warren and Wetmore, it is an example of Georgian Revival architecture. Master artisan Peter Mansbendel created its wood and stone carvings. The house is located within the exclusive Courtlandt Place neighborhood, established in the early 20th century. The Donoghue family owned the property until 1966. It was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1994. This house is historically significant for its architectural style and its association with a prominent figure in the Texas oil industry.
